1 Corinthians 6:12
Two ditches that restrict Christian Freedom. (1) Legalism (2) Licentiousness
Legalism- religion based upon human achievement. A spirituality based on Christ plus human works that makes conformity to man-made rules the measure of spirituality.
Licentiousness- pursuing desires aggressively and selfishly, unchecked by God’s Word. Romans 6:1-4
Christianity is often seen from the eyes of a lost world for the things we do not engage in. Christianity must be defined for the actions we do.
Matthew 5:16
1 Peter 2:12
Some churches have the Behave, Believe, and Belong model. A biblical Christ-Centered church should have a Belong, Believe, and Become model.
Look-at-me spirituality restricts freedom in Christ. vv.18-19
Mysticism- the pursuit of a deeper or higher subjective religious experience. Religious beliefs or practices that people follow to achieve personal communication or union with the divine outside the direction of God’s Word. Examples: Use of a Sweat Lodge, Ouija Board, or Drugs for spiritual practice.

Limited-to-regulations theology restricts freedom in Christ. vv.20-23
Asceticism- abstinence, self-denial, especially as a principled way of life. An example of Limited-to-regulations theology would be the abstaining from pork, shellfish, etc. for religious reasons, not for health reasons.
