Give And Take Church Website Graphic Revelation 2:18-29

Background: Thyatira was the home of Lydia. Lydia came to Christ in Acts 16 and lived for Christ. Thyatira was part of the Roman road system, thus making it a place of trade for dyes, garments, pottery, and brass objects.

Steps to kill the sin of compromise and rekindle a commitment to Christ.

Why should we kill the sin of compromise? Paul told the Corinthians (1 Cor. 15:33) “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’” We must be reminded that if we allow unbiblical things to influence us, we are in grave danger of leading others to Hell.

  1. Remember the Wrath of God (v.18)
Here we see an Old Testament type view of God’s wrath. God is serious about His glory alone. He does not tolerant our compromise of sin.

  1. Recommit to the Work of God (v.19)
Endurance is the key. Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

  1. Refocus on the Word of God (v.20)
Many scholars believe this statement of “tolerating Jezebel” meant that there a woman prophetess that was leading many astray. How do you know a counterfeit, you know the truth! The Word of God is the truth. Search the Word of God and you will know what is false.

Psalm 119:163 “I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law.”

  1. Repent of disobedience to the Will of God (vv.21-23)
Be careful if you are living outside of the will of God. His desire is that you find your joy in Christ, not in the things of this world. Run from sin and run to Christ.

  1. Realize The Worth of God (v.24)
Psalm 86:9 “All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.”

  1. Resolve to Wait on God (v.25)
Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

  1. Receive The Rewards of God (vv.26-29)

In verse 25, the one who conquers, means Nikeo or Nike, the military term for victory! The only way for victory is through a relationship with Jesus. They only way we’ll have victory is through Christ. He wants to reward us now and then. Now with peace and assurance, than with eternal life.
