Acts 1:1-9

Recognize the Promise vv.4-5

John 14:12“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

John 14:16-19 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,[a] to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

Remain Patient vv.6-7

Mark 13:32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Receive Power v.8

What does this power do? It causes boldness. The Greek form of the word for witness is translated into the word we get for martyr. Once the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will have boldness to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

How do we utilize this power? If you’ve been born again, saved, you have received the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:9-11 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus[d] from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.  His power gives eternal life.

Romans 8:14-16 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, His power makes us hires.

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. His power gives us strength.

Pray for God to move through the Holy Spirit within you. Remember a prayerless person is a powerless person. “God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and self-control.” 2 Tim 1:7

Pray for boldness, ask others to pray for you to be bold in Christ. Acts 4:31

Resolve to Proclaim v.8

Jesus began his ministry and ended his ministry on earth with calling people to make disciples. Mark 1:17 “And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
