Stick to the Path

God’s Will

Psalm 16:11
J

The question, we all ask ourselves is what is God’s will for my life?  What purpose do I have?  How can I be effective?  For the next few weeks, we’ll use God’s Word to strive to define God’s Will for our life.  Today will be God’s Universal will for all of His creation!  Next week it will be “God’s Will for Mother’s”, Followed by “Hearing and Heeding God’s Will”, and ending with “God’s Will in Transition”.  Titles are subject to change according to the leading of the Holy Spirit!  I’m excited about this series!  It will challenge our comfort and prayerfully thrust us closer to the cross!

What is God’s Will? Another way of asking this question, According to scripture, what is God’s plan for mankind?  If life were a journey, and it most certainly is, how do we know we are going about it in the right direction?  God’s Word is our map, yet we have check-points that are indicators letting us know we’re on path!

  1. Salvation– You cannot walk in path of God’s will without salvation! You’ll always be on the wrong path! Matthew 7:14 “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

1 Timothy 2:3-4 “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

God created us to have relationship with Him!  It’s clear in Genesis, but we’ve messed that up, therefore through surrendering to Jesus Christ is the only way to a relationship with a Holy God!  We were created to worship Him!  Why do we go on mission trips, or send money, or send missionaries, or send money, or pray for the lost?  Because not everyone has the joy of Jesus!  Not everyone worships the One True God!   Salvation is restoring a Situation of Hell that is a reality for those apart from God!

  1. Sanctification– This is just a big word for our growth in Christ!

1 Thess 4:3-7 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.”

Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

  1. Spirit-Filled Living

Ephesians 5:15-21 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

  1. Service

Romans 10:14-15 “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

2 Thess 3:13 “As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good”

James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

  1. Endurance in Suffering

Romans 5:3-5  “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

1 Peter 4:12-14 “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.”

  1. Satisfaction in Christ

1 Peter 1:8-9 “Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
