Genesis 1-9
God’s Purpose (Genesis 1:26-31)
To multiply the glory and joy of God to all people and all nations. God created man so that we could enjoy Him forever! That is God’s purpose, His glory and our joy! We often misplace that order to our glory and our joy!
Truth: The fall of mankind (our sin) has caused a barrier from us fulfilling God’s purpose.
Man’s Problem (Genesis 6:5-8)
The number one song sang in Hell is Frank Sinatra’s song “I Did it May Way.” The cause of sin is to follow the desires of oneself instead of the faith guided act of obedience to God.
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
1 Cor. 6:9-11 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Truth: God’s patience will run out on the unrepentant sinner.
God’s Procedure (Genesis 6:11-22)
How big was the ark? 450 ft long, 75 wide, and 45 ft high.
The inside capacity would have been 1.4 million cubic feet. Here is a picture in order for you to compare it to today’s modern structures.
God is exclusive in His way of salvation. Verse 14, Noah was to use pitch to cover the ark. The word cover means protecting or salvation from. וְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥ – To cover, to pitch. Kapher or Kippur, Yom Kippur is the “Day of Atonement”
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Exclusive- one way, Jesus
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Exclusive
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Exclusive
Acts 4:12 “and there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Exclusive
Truth: God is giving those who trust in Him a bridge to life! The preparation that God asked Noah, He’s asking us to prepare today! To proclaim God’s salvation through the cross! The way of salvation is through Jesus!
Why would a good God judge or send anyone to Hell? The answer is because a good God loves us so much that He sent us His son. The answer is the cross! We don’t have to go to Hell, but we have to be obedient through faith! I ask, why would the Creator save me? I am undeserving!
Christians have the cure to the one disease that plagues everyone! It would be hateful not to share the cure with the whole world! The disease is sin and the cure is Jesus Christ!
God’s Provision (Genesis 7:17-21)
How high was the water? It was fifteen cubits (22ft 6in) above the tops of the mountains. Mt. Ararat is 16, 854 ft.; therefore, the water level would have been at least 16, 876 ft. high. (picture)
God’s Promise (Genesis 8:20-21)
He will not use a flood to destroy the whole earth.
Man’s Privilege (Genesis 9:7-13)
To multiply the glory and joy of God to all people and all nations. God created man so that we could enjoy Him forever! That is God’s purpose, His glory and our joy! Notice the purpose of God in Genesis 1 is continued after the flood. It’s a restart! We get to have a relationship with the Creator!
The flood leaves us with one hope- salvation. This story of Noah points to a must needed epilogue, Jesus! Jesus is our ark, our way of salvation.
Do you need a restart? We have the privilege to restart today and fulfill God’s purpose of glorifying Him and enjoying Him forever through a relationship with Jesus Christ. You cannot do that apart from the work of Jesus on the Cross. You must make Him your Savior!
