Winning The War with God’s Protection

Ephesians 6:10-19

I.  Find your Strength in Christ Alone (Ephesians 6:10) The phrase “be strong” is something Paul tells Timothy 25 times. It’s a spiritual strength that can only come from God himself. It’s not physical. Verse 12 points this out clearly, that we are in warfare, yet not of a physical type. As we grow in Christ, it will not take long to realize that Satan doesn’t want you to grow! He wants you relax, not become war-ready!

II. Familiarize yourself with the Strategies and Tactics of the Enemy (Ephesians 6:11-13) (John 10:10) “The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that you may have abundant life.”

  1. Satan is Real (v.11) (1 Peter 5:8) “be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
  2. Satan is Working in the Spiritual Realm (v.12)
  3. The Security of Christ is the Only Remedy (v.13)

III. Be Fitted with the Securing Armor of God (Ephesians 6:14-17)

  1. The Belt of Truth (v.14) A soldiers belt holds everything and holds everything together. John 8:31-32 confirms that God’s Word is the truth and this truth holds everything!
  2. The Breastplate of Righteousness (v.14) Our righteousness is found in Christ only! 2 Cor. 5:21 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” The Breastplate protects each vital organ.
  3. The Gospel Boots (v.15) A solid foundation or footing is a soldiers best friend, especially in rough terrain. This brings us peace.
  4. The Shield of Faith (v.16) The shield is to protect us against shots being fired at us. It will happen if you are living for Christ. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Jn. 16:33
  5. The Helmet of Salvation (v.17) You cannot go into battle with the helmet. Salvation is the most important accept of spiritual warfare, it means you are God’s soldier.
  6. the Sword of the Spirit (v.17) This is the offensive weapon to be used in warfare.

IV. Frequently Communicate with the Source of Victory (Ephesians 6:18-19)

  1. Pray Comprehensively for God’s Work (v.18)
  2. Pray Consistently for Gospel Boldness (v.19)

When you are growing in Christ, Spiritual Warfare is inevitable! Satan doesn’t want you to grow! The Church is a garrison, an Army to come alongside, to equip, to sustain. Let’s grow together!
