State of Our Church Address

Applying Nehemiah’s Leadership Principles to Oak Hill Baptist Church

Nehemiah 1:1-6, 2:1-6

  1. He was concerned enough to see a need. v.3. (Took a hard look)
  2. He was confident enough to pray. v.4. (Real concern for the people)
  3. He was moved to compassion. vv.5-6. (Don’t get caught up in numbers, have compassion for souls) The prophet Jeremiah’s concern for the people caused him to weep day and night. The prophet Joel proclaimed a solemn fast and said, “Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar.”  Jesus in Luke 19:41 “…drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,…”  Are we concerned that people are living and dying without Christ?  Out of 58,000 people in Pearl River County, only 19,000 attend any type of church.
  4. He was courageous enough to act. Nehemiah 2:1-6.

Act with Courage in 2017

  1. Dedicated to the Word (Bible Reading Challenge, and Sunday School) Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
  2. Devoted to Prayer (Nothing great happens without prayer! It’s like breathing for the human, the Christian cannot live apart from prayer!) “The condition of the church may be very accurately gauged by its prayer meetings. So is the prayer meeting a grace-ometer, and from it we may judge of the amount of divine working among a people. If God be near a church, it must pray. And if He be not there, one of die first tokens of His absence will be a slothfulness in prayer!” CH Spurgeon

  1. Developing the Future

What will it take for your children and grandchildren to worship with you? Judges 2:10 “And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.”
