Before Faith
We Were Dead (v.1)
Death is our default position. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Trespassing means to cross a line, we have crossed God’s line!
We Were Deceived (v.2)
Colossians 2:6-8 “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits[a] of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Without Christ, you’ll be drawn to anything and everything, you’re taken captive by deception!
We Were Disobedient (v.2)
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Everyone has been disobedient!
We Were Doomed (v.3)
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
When Faith Happens
We Are Raised (vv.4-6)
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Romans 6:4 “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
We Are Rewarded (vv.7-9)
Grace is a gift, it’s awarded to those who surrender to Jesus Christ! It is not something merited or worked for! You don’t work for salvation, but once you have it, it will cause you to get to working for Christ Jesus!
We Are Responsible (v.10)
Now that we are new, we have a responsibility to walk differently!
1 John 2:6 “whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
